To the delight of the Gourmet…and Gourmand: it’s Pizza Expo Time once again!

By Mark J. Bartlett

April 2, 2023-The International Pizza Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center in 2023 was a true foodie’s paradise. From the classic Margherita to the unconventional BBQ chicken pizza, there was something for every palate. The Expo featured over 500 vendors showcasing the latest in pizza trends and techniques, making it the perfect place for pizzeria owners, chefs, and pizza enthusiasts to discover new ideas and products.

One of the biggest trends at this year’s Expo was vegan pizza. With the rise of plant-based eating, many pizza vendors were offering vegan options using ingredients like dairy-free cheese and plant-based meats. The vegan pizza was just as delicious as its non-vegan counterparts, and it was exciting to see how much the industry is evolving to cater to all dietary preferences.

Another standout at the Expo was the variety of deli meats available as pizza toppings. From pepperoni and sausage to prosciutto and salami, pizza lovers could find their favorite cured meats on display. Some vendors even offered unique options like duck prosciutto and bresaola, making it easy to experiment with new flavors and textures.

Wine samplings were also a big hit at the Expo, with many vendors offering tastings of their Italian wines. The wine pairings added an extra layer of flavor to the pizza, and it was fascinating to see how different wines brought out the unique flavors in each pizza. Whether you prefer a bold red or a crisp white, there was a wine to suit every taste.

Of course, no pizza is complete without the perfect red sauce. At the Expo, attendees could sample a variety of red sauces, ranging from sweet and tangy to spicy and savory. Many vendors offered their own signature sauces, and it was fun to compare and contrast the different flavor profiles.

Maria Menendez, a pizza enthusiast and attendee of the Expo, was blown away by the variety of pizza samples available. “I couldn’t believe how many different kinds of pizza there were to try,” she said. “From classic pies to gourmet creations, there was something new and exciting at every booth.”

Louis Valentin, another attendee, loved the street cafe feel of the Expo. “It felt like I was walking through a bustling Italian piazza,” he said. “The smells and sounds of the Expo were intoxicating, and it was so much fun to sample all the different pizzas and wines.”

As a food connoisseur and health-conscious individual, I found the Pizza Expo to be a delightful experience. Not only did I get to indulge in delicious pizza, but I also discovered new vegan options and tried unique toppings like bresaola and duck prosciutto. The wine pairings were also a highlight, as they added an extra layer of complexity to each slice. We highly recommend attending next year’s show, whether you’re a pizza lover or just someone who enjoys good food and drinks. With so much to discover, it’s an event not to be missed!
